As early as 1949, we have known that conventional septic tanks are polluting South Florida. In 1971, Miami-Dade County committed to eliminating the use of these tanks -- but this goal has not been achieved.

We have compiled materials to chart a path forward for urban septic to sewer conversion. The materials include a scientific support document, policy recommendations, and a summary of financing mechanisms to aid in the elimination of urban septic tanks.

The best time to take action was decades ago. The next best time to take action is right now
