What to Expect
Participants will engage in both classroom learning and hands-on field experiences as Dr. Troxler shares insights from her groundbreaking research on implementing Nature-Based Solutions throughout South Florida. Learn how natural systems can be harnessed to address flooding, improve water quality, protect shorelines, and enhance community resilience.
About Dr. Tiffany Troxler
Dr. Troxler is an Associate Professor in the Department of Earth and Environment and Director of Science in the Sea Level Solutions Center in the Institute of Environment at Florida International University. She is an ecosystem ecologist and sustainability scientist whose work integrates science, policy, and management of natural and urban environments. Her research examines how Everglades ecosystems respond to sea-level rise and water management, developing innovative tools to enhance their resilience to climate change. Dr. Troxler has authored over 80 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters and previously served as a Program Officer with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Task Force on National Greenhouse Gas Inventories, supporting the implementation of nature-based carbon mitigation in policy frameworks. She currently serves as Chair of the International Long-Term Ecological Research Network.

Important: The field trip portion will involve walking around the FIU Biscayne Bay Campus. Please dress appropriately for outdoor conditions (hat, sunscreen, water bottle recommended) and wear comfortable walking shoes.
