Climate Week Kayak Clean Up - March 25th 2025

Miami Waterkeeper is excited to partner with The International SeaKeepers Society for a special kayak-based marine debris cleanup in honor of Miami Climate Week 2025! As we spotlight the urgent need for climate action, this event will give volunteers the chance to make a tangible impact by paddling out to remove plastic pollution and other debris from our coastal waters. Together, we can help protect marine life and preserve Miami’s beautiful shorelines while advocating for a cleaner, healthier planet.

Volunteer Day Main Tasks:

• Removal of marine debris from the water and surrounding habitats

This volunteer event may require heavy lifting and experience on a kayak, hence teenagers and older groups are recommended. If younger age groups participate, they should be monitored at all times by the designated guardian, parents, etc. *Community Service hours also provided*

Important Volunteer Information:

• The kayak clean-up lasts 2 hours with an end time of around 12pm. We will be launching near Maurice Gibb Memorial Park in Miami Beach.
• Please be on time, registration begins 30 minutes before the volunteer workday starts. Please arrive at 9am.
• The kayak clean-up is weather dependent and the event will be canceled with at least 24 hours notice if inclement weather is anticipated.

Please Bring:

• Refillable water bottle. Stay hydrated and be prepared to work outside and on the water.
• Closed-toe shoes are required and long-sleeved shirts are and long pants are recommended (clothes that can get wet).
• A hat, sunblock, and insect repellent (recommended).
• Gloves you feel comfortable wearing (otherwise Miami Waterkeeper will provide gloves).

Ticket Information

• This is a ticketed event with a fee of $35 per ticket, which covers kayak rental.
• The ticket also includes dry bag rentals, waterproof phone cases, refreshments, and waterproof speakers for music.
