Environmental threats like hurricanes, rising sea levels, and other disasters put nuclear power plants—and the communities around them—at serious risk. Many of these plants are also operating with aging infrastructure, increasing the chance of failure. And that’s not even mentioning potential pollution from the plants. Without stronger protections, plant failures could harm people, wildlife, and critical infrastructure.
We’re calling on Congress to take action by directing the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to ensure nuclear plant safety. This includes identifying risks, strengthening infrastructure, and preparing for extreme weather events—and reporting back to Congress.
