Miami Waterkeeper and Tripping Animals Brewing are partnering for another marine debris clean-up, and this time we have a new partner, Gramps Getaway!

Volunteers will hit the water on kayaks to conduct a marine debris clean-up in our coastal and mangrove habitats. Enjoy a fun day of community collaboration with organizations dedicated to environmental conservation, and after the clean-up, unwind and socialize at a fun happy hour!

 

 

Participating Organizations:

BLUE Missions empowers the youth to advocate for a world where there is water for all, forever. Through service projects and sustainability education, BLUE connects families in Latin America to clean, fresh water and inspires young people to lead the way to a water-secure future. 

The International SeaKeepers Society promotes oceanographic research, conservation, and education through direct involvement with the yachting community. Providing educational resources and hands-on marine science experiences to students is the primary focus for ensuring the future wellbeing of our planet. SeaKeepers enables the yachting community to take full advantage of their unique potential to advance marine sciences and raise awareness about global ocean issues.

Geared for Green was established in 1985 and since has been a leader in innovating and implementing Recycling, Sustainability, and Circular Economies for businesses and organizations throughout the USA. 

Fees:

  • Double Kayaks: $50 (Perfect for duos)
  • Single Kayaks: $40 (Ideal for solo)

Registration fees includes kayak, paddles, PFDs, hydration packets, light snacks, and a Miami Waterkeeper staff guide. Registration fees are due in order to RSVP and refunds will not be issued for no-shows. 

 

Volunteer Day Main Tasks:

  • Removal of marine debris from the water and surrounding mangrove habitats

This volunteer event may require heavy lifting and experience on a kayak. *Community Service hours also provided* 

Important Volunteer Information:

Please be on time, registration begins 30 minutes before the volunteer workday starts. Please arrive at 10am!

  • Please Bring:

    • Refillable water bottle. Stay hydrated and be prepared to work outside and on the water.

    • Closed-toe shoes are required and long-sleeved shirts are and long pants are recommended (clothes that can get wet).

    • A hat, sunblock, and insect repellent (recommended).

    • Gloves you feel comfortable wearing (otherwise Miami Waterkeeper will provide gloves).

    • The kayak clean-up is weather dependent and the event will be canceled with at least 24 hours notice if inclement weather is anticipated.

    • The kayak clean-up lasts 2 hours with an end time of around 12:30pm. We will be launching from Rickenbacker Marina.
