Miami Waterkeeper (MWK) is an award-winning non-profit organization dedicated to protecting Biscayne Bay and the surrounding watershed. Launched in 2010, MWK has become a leading advocate for clean water, inspiring a movement of empowered citizens dedicated to achieving swimmable, drinkable, fishable water. We use community outreach, scientific research, and civic and legal action to advance our mission. Miami Waterkeeper is a fast-paced and dynamic work environment with a small, hard-working team that is mission-driven and passionate about our environment and community.

Miami Waterkeeper seeks enthusiastic and dedicated Education and Outreach Interns to support our community engagement and environmental education initiatives. This unpaid internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in environmental outreach, education, and conservation efforts in Miami-Dade County.

ESSENTIAL ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in executing education and outreach programming and events to engage community members
  • Support restoration events, clean-up activities, Green Infrastructure workshops, community engagement events, and floating classrooms
  • Help set up, implement, and clean up after educational and volunteer events
  • Serve as a representative of Miami Waterkeeper in public settings
  • Capture photos/videos at outreach and education activities
  • Maintain education and outreach materials and ensure proper care of scientific equipment
  •  Collect contact information and release forms from participants as needed
  •  Perform other related duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Pursuing or recently completed a degree in marine science, environmental studies, education, or a related field
  •  Strong interest in environmental conservation and marine ecosystems
  • Excellent communication and public speaking skills
  • Familiarity with South Florida's flora and fauna
  • Comfortable working in coastal ecosystems and challenging outdoor conditions
  • Ability to work regular weekends and some evenings
  • Willingness to participate in water activities (boating, kayaking, snorkeling)
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is highly preferred

Job Type:

  • Position Type: Unpaid Internship
  • Time Commitment: Approximately 10 hours per week, primarily weekends with some weekday events (varies depending on season and event needs)
  • Requires reliable transportation
