Education and Outreach Coordinator

Miami Waterkeeper seeks a dynamic, mission-driven Education and Outreach Coordinator to join our close-knit team. You will bring a contagious passion for empowering youth and communities through environmental education. We need an independent self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment managing multiple programs. You can maintain relentless attention to detail even when juggling competing priorities. You thrive when providing students of all ages with hands-on, immersive environmental education experiences in the field that allows students to deeply engage with water, our environment, science, and advocacy. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design and facilitate hands-on, curriculum-based educational programs for K-12 students in Miami-Dade County focused on key topics such as water conservation, pollution prevention, ecosystem restoration, and environmental justice. Programs should aim to foster youth leadership, engagement, and advocacy 
  • Build partnerships with schools, youth groups, and community organizations to bring Miami Waterkeeper educational programs to diverse audiences across Miami-Dade County
  • Track program data and evaluate educational program impacts through surveys and assessment tools. Identify opportunities for program improvement and growth
  • Manage Waterkeeper's involvement with local environmental education networks and coalitions and assist with building community partnerships 
  • Support the planning and coordination of Miami Waterkeeper's education and outreach events including school field trips, teacher workshops, public education programs, volunteer events, workshops, presentations, and more
  • Develop online education courses and manage our online learning software (TalentLMS)

ADDITIONAL ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage program-related CRM (Nationbuilder) database entries 
  • Assist with volunteer recruitment and retention
  • Assist with the management of program web pages, event landing pages etc.
  • Assist with content collection at events 
  • Track metrics from education and outreach programs/events

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in education, environmental science/studies, or related field required
  • 2+ years experience designing and implementing hands-on educational programs/curriculum, preferably focused on environmental topics, for youth audiences
  • Passion for connecting youth to nature and empowering the next generation of environmental leaders
  • Experience with online learning platforms such as TalentLMS or ability to learn
  • Strong public speaking, presentation, and group facilitation skills
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Reliable transportation to/from our office in Coral Gables and/or event sites within Miami-Dade & Broward Counties
  • Excellent organizational skills -- organized and detailed, ability to manage multiple projects and programs independently
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, Google Drive, DropBox, basic computer operations, and comfort with communicating via phone, email, and virtual meetings (Google Meet, Zoom, etc.)

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience networking and working with educators and/or school administrations in Miami-Dade County 
  • Interest in incorporating a diversity, equity, and inclusion lens when communicating and decision making
  • Experience working with environmental community groups and organizations in underserved communities 
  • Experience using scientific communication strategies to general audiences
  • Experience planning and implementing public events 
  • Bilingual (Spanish preferred) 
  • Experience building relationships with staff, volunteers, supporters

SALARY RANGE

$45,000 - $55,000
