The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers performed a South Atlantic Comprehensive Study (SACS) to identify the risks and vulnerabilities from increased hurricane and storm damage due to climate change. This study aimed to identify high-risk locations in current and future conditions and promote sustainable projects and programs for more resilient communities.
The draft report presented over 370 high-risk locations in Florida; of these locations, 19 out of 20 of the highest-risk areas are right here in Southeast Florida. Our community needs significant investments to improve resilience to storms intensified by climate change. As such, Miami Waterkeeper reviewed the draft SACS report and developed recommendations for the Army Corps' final recommendations to Congress.
