No more plastic straws: With an eye on the environment, Village works toward ban

A cool drink on a hot South Florida day is a must – but it isn’t necessary to hurt the environment to enjoy that simple pleasure.

That’s the idea behind an ordinance the Village Council is reviewing to ban plastic straws on the Key, save for some minor exceptions. Council members passed the measure on first reading June 5 and will take a final vote August 28.
