The nonprofit Miami Waterkeeper is part of a team encouraging residents to pitch environmental improvement projects, projects like raising seawalls at waterfront parks or planting trees in Overtown. Amanda Priedo is the Senior Director of programs for Miami Waterkeeper.

If we're adding trees, we're reducing heat. The trees are absorbing water, so that's going to help with flood mitigation. It's also filtering the water, which is helping improve water quality.

That's all through a partnership that includes the University of Miami and Florida International University. The aim is to continue gathering ideas through the end of February, some of which will be brought before town, city and county officials. Proposals will be accepted online at MiamiWaterkeeper org.
