Bass Pro Shops & Cabela's Outdoor Fund Support Water Quality Research and Education

Miami Waterkeeper is excited to announce our new partnership with Bass Pro Shops & Cabela's Outdoor Fund. Our organizations understand the importance of well-preserved and monitored green and blue spaces.

The partnership award – totaling $10,000 – will help support Miami Waterkeeper’s core initiatives: weekly water quality monitoring, 1000 Eyes on the Water, and our Junior Ambassador program. Where does this funding come from? You! When you round up loose change at the register at your local Bass Pro Shops or Cabela's, you’re helping this fund make real change for the outdoors. More than 200 million passionate customers are supporting key conservation programs across North America with this round-up program, including our own at Miami Waterkeeper! By bringing together customers alongside dedicated team members, industry partners, and leading conservation organizations, Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s are creating North America’s largest conservation movement to collectively shape the future of the outdoors and all who love it for generations to come.

A South Florida with clean water for all requires the commitment of all of our community partners. Miami Waterkeeper depends on community members and partners like the Bass Pro Shops & Cabela's Outdoor Fund to ensure swimmable, drinkable, and fishable water every day.

This partnership fully funds one of our 12 weekly water quality monitoring sites in Miami-Dade County for a year – supporting our efforts to inform South Florida residents of the state of their water before they step foot in it. The water sampling site chosen to receive this support is Matheson Hammock Park, one of our most visited recreational sites for water activities. Click here to check out the park on The Swim Guide. The partnership also helps us educate more community members about how to watch for water quality issues as part of our 1000 Eyes on the Water patrol team.

The next generation of researchers and clean water advocates will also benefit from this partnership as our Junior Ambassador program trains its next cohort of high school students! The funding from this partnership will help provide hands-on learning experiences with Biscayne Bay's aquatic ecosystems for our ambassadors. The Junior Ambassador program is currently recruiting for next year's cohort of environmental youth leaders! All 9-12 grade students interested in environmental advocacy are encouraged to apply now for the year-long program starting in September 2021! Click here to learn more and apply.

We thank the Bass Pro Shops & Cabela's Outdoor Fund for their partnership and are excited for what partnerships like these mean for the future of our water. Are you a corporate group or business looking to get involved with sponsoring one of our programs? Send us an email at [email protected] to learn how you can take the next step!
