Miami Waterkeeper Junior Ambassadors Class of 2019 Graduate!

Miami Waterkeeper Junior Ambassadors graduate from the 2018-2019 program!

Last weekend, Miami Waterkeeper celebrated the graduation of our Junior Ambassadors after their completion of the year-long program. We hit the seas with the students and Field School on their vessel, the RV Garvin, for one final fun learning experience. On the trip, our students saw the Miami skyline, drove past the Port of Miami, snorkeled at a local reef, and learned correct and safe ways to enter the water from a dive platform.

Each of our 24 Junior Ambassador students graduated the program with a certificate of completion and special gifts from Miami Waterkeeper, including a water bottle from one of our sponsors, Hydroflask- Parks for All. Throughout the year-long program, these students learned about local environmental issues, participated in service events, received advocacy training, and put together a final project which was presented to an audience of their choice. Upon graduation, each student completed 24 hours of community service.

The Junior Ambassador Program is dedicated to helping high school students become environmental leaders in South Florida. Meeting eight times over the course of a year, the students’ experience culminates in one final project before graduation from the program. Applications for the 2019-2020 school year open June 15th!
