Miami Waterkeeper is excited to continue our partnership with Miami EcoAdventures and welcome volunteers back for this impactful marine clean-up experience. Join us for a guided walking clean-up (approximately 0.7 miles) through the mangroves of Bear Cut Preserve, followed by a rewarding snorkeling clean-up at Fossil Reef.

***LIMITED SPOTS AVAILABLE***

This is a FREE volunteer event. To ensure strong attendance, a $0.50 RSVP hold is required RSVP. A $55 no-show fee will only be charged if you RSVP and do not attend or cancel in advance.

What We Provide: Miami Waterkeeper and Miami EcoAdventures staff will have everything you need — life vests, masks, snorkels, gloves, trash bags, and all clean-up equipment. Fins will not be provided given the shallow nature of the reef; if you own a pair of short fins, you are welcome to bring them.

Volunteer Day Main Tasks:

  • Removal of marine debris from the mangrove habitats followed by snorkeling

This event may involve heavy lifting and requires confidence in the water. Prior snorkeling experience is strongly recommended. All participants must be at least 9 years of age. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Community service hours are provided — please bring your form and staff will sign it on the day.

Important Volunteer Information:

Please be on time, registration begins 30 minutes before the volunteer workday starts. Please arrive at 9:00am!

  • Please Bring:

    • Closed-toe shoes (mandatory) for both the clean-up and snorkeling portions — old sneakers, dive booties, or water shoes all work great. Crocs are not permitted. Participants without closed-toe shoes will not be able to participate.

    • Refillable water bottle — you'll be working outside and on the water, so stay hydrated

    • Long-sleeved shirt and long pants recommended — wear clothes you don't mind getting wet

    • Swimsuit or rash guard for the snorkeling portion

    • Waterproof bag for personal items

    • Snacks
    • Hat, reef-safe sunscreen, and insect repellent (highly recommended)

    • The event is weather dependent and will be canceled with at least 24 hours notice if inclement weather is anticipated.

    • The event lasts 3 hours with an end time of around 12:30pm. Please meet at the Biscayne Nature Center (6767 Crandon Blvd. Key Biscayne, FL 33149) at 9:00am.
