Miami Waterkeeper is seeking a part-time water quality field technician. This position will support Miami Waterkeeper's routine water quality monitoring program and will involve a 5-10 hour per week commitment, with the bulk of the work taking place on Mondays and Tuesdays weekly. This position pays $15/hour.
Job Responsibilities
Water Quality Monitoring
- Collects samples, both routine and opportunistic, as part of the water quality monitoring program (Monday morning for Miami-Dade, Tuesday for Broward County, as well as possible resampling later in the week) -- must have personal transportation

Completes Miami Waterkeeper's water quality training program
- Abides by sampling schedules (all samples must be analyzed within 6 hours of collection) to ensure timely completion of sampling

Performs fieldwork across Miami Dade County and Broward County as needed

Coordinates with Water Quality Research Manager for sample collection and delivery

Collects data using apps in the field, records data on the field sheet, takes site pictures, sends site pictures to Water Quality Research Manager

Works 5-10 hours/week

Abides by water quality program procedures and processes
- Proficient and adept in handling YSI meters

Notifies Water Quality Research Manager of equipment/supply needs
Boat Program
- Comfortable operating a small vessel (13ft) with a tiller outboard motor in nearshore waters of Biscayne Bay and nearby waterways
- Ability to perform safety checks on vessel
- Ability to trailer and launch small vessel independently
Desired Qualifications
- Valid Driver's License

Personal vehicle and motor vehicle insurance (all mileage and tolls will be reimbursed)
- Florida Boater Safety License and/or Captain's license

Motorboat Operators Certification (MOCC)
- Undergraduate or graduate student with an interest in water quality monitoring and research

Ability to be routinely available to collect and process samples on a weekly basis

Attention to detail and ability to keep accurate records

Ability to follow sampling protocols and safety requirements
