Juneteenth Day of Service: The Green Haven Project

Miami Waterkeeper is proud to collaborate with the Mino Learning Lab for the second year in a row and join their 4th Annual Juneteenth Day of Service Event. We will be joining Mino Learning Lab and other partners to assist with the community garden at The Green Haven Project

The Mino Learning Lab, a non-profit (501)c3 organization, supports spaces for educators to learn, grow, and disrupt inequitable systems together through community engagement and education. The Mino Learning Lab is raising money in an effort to provide high quality educational resources and professional development to educators and youth serving organizations in Miami’s priority areas. Every dollar helps them continue their mission of providing excellent curriculum support and resources to educators and youth serving organizations in Miami's priority neighborhoods. We are inviting educators, community members, students and their families to join us as we celebrate Black liberation through education and service.

Every volunteer that signs up and attends (MUST SIGN-IN) our Day of Service will receive a complimentary ticket from our partner, SuperBlue Miami!

Volunteer Day Main Tasks:

  • Assist in the community garden at The Green Haven Project to help provide food for the Overtown community and create a sustainable ecosystem.  

This volunteer event may require heavy lifting and bending over, hence teenagers and older groups are recommended. If younger age groups participate, they should be monitored at all times by the designated guardian, parents, etc. *Community Service hours also provided* 

Important Volunteer Information:

Please be on time, registration begins 30 minutes before the volunteer workday starts. Please arrive at 9am!

  • Please Bring:

    • Refillable water bottle. Stay hydrated and be prepared to work outside.

    • Closed-toe shoes are required and long-sleeved shirts are and long pants are recommended 

    • A hat, sunblock, and insect repellent (recommended).

    • Gloves you feel comfortable wearing (otherwise Miami Waterkeeper will provide gloves).

    • The event is weather dependent and the event will be canceled with at least 24 hours notice if inclement weather is anticipated.
