Join us for an immersive Environmental Justice Workshop exploring the rich history of Miami's Historic Overtown neighborhood and ongoing environmental challenges in Miami.
Our journey, led by Keith Ivory (Historian and Urban Health Partnership's Overtown Community Liason) begins at the iconic Historic Lyric Theater, once the cultural heart of Miami's Black community. From there, we'll embark on a guided walking tour through Historic Overtown, where you'll learn about the neighborhood's legacy, the impact of urban development policies, and the intersection of environmental justice with community history.
The tour continues to the Historic Black Police Precinct, a landmark that tells the story of Miami's first Black police officers and their role in the community. Here, we'll explore how law enforcement, community advocacy, and environmental justice intersect in urban spaces.
The morning concludes with an engaging panel discussion featuring leading Environmental Justice experts working in Miami. Join the conversation as we discuss current initiatives, challenges, and opportunities for creating a more equitable and sustainable future for all Miami residents.
