Tell the County to Support Good Policy for Water Quality

This Thursday, the Miami Dade County Board of County Commissioners is going to be hearing several items that will directly impact the health of Biscayne Bay. Now is your chance to stand up for good policy for water quality.

Miami Waterkeeper supports the following items:

  • 11A4 -- Sewer System Vulnerabilities Repair & Replacement
  • 8LI -- Wetland Rehydration and Biscayne Bay Restoration
  • 11A25 -- Biscayne Bay Coastal Wetlands Enhancement
  • 11A37 -- Biosolids and Nutrient Pollution Prevention
  • 11A24 -- Single-Use Plastics and Foam State Preemption Repeal
  • 11A29 -- Legislative Priorities for Septic to Sewer Conversion
We need you to join us and let your voice be heard!
  • Show up! The County Commission meeting is October 3, 2019, at 9:30 am at the Stephen P. Clark Government Center (111 NW First Street Miami, Florida 33128). You'll have to go through security and then take the escalator to the second floor. (If you get lost, just ask anywhere where the Commission chambers are.) You can give a brief public comment (2 minutes) to express your support for good policy for water quality! When you show up, simply fill out a speaker card at the main desk and wait for your name to be called.
  • Spread the word! Share this information online and tag your friends, family, and Commissioners! Let them know that policy around water quality is important to you and that you care about the health of Biscayne Bay.
Tell the County Commission:
  • Clean water is what makes Miami, Miami. Poor water quality is bad for our environment, our economy, and our community.
  • Biscayne Bay is experiencing numerous threats from nutrient pollution, sewage leaks, dysfunctional septic systems, and marine debris. These threats can also be dangerous to public health, exposing our community to harmful contaminants and pollutants.
  • Our Bay contributes more than $12 billion in economic output and hundreds of thousands of jobs to Miami Dade County. A clean bay is essential to our real estate, recreation, tourism, and culture.
  • For these reasons, I urge you to support the following six resolutions which address a myriad of issues facing Biscayne Bay and water quality in our region:
    • 11A4 -- Sewer System Vulnerabilities Repair & Replacement
    • 8LI -- Wetland Rehydration and Biscayne Bay Restoration
    • 11A25 -- Biscayne Bay Coastal Wetlands Enhancement
    • 11A37 -- Biosolids and Nutrient Pollution Prevention
    • 11A24 -- Single-Use Plastics and Foam State Preemption Repeal
    • 11A29 -- Legislative Priorities for Septic to Sewer Conversion

Miami Waterkeeper would like to thank Commissioner Daniella Levine Cava for sponsoring items 11A4, 8LI, 11A25, 11A37, and 11A24 and Chairwoman Audrey M. Edmonson for sponsoring item 11A29.
